Dúnhere was a young chieftain who ruled the folk of Harrowdale, and served as a valiant captain during the War of the Ring.
Biography[]
The son of Erkenwald and nephew of Erkenbrand, Dúnhere was a young captain of riders and the Lord of Harrowdale in the White Mountains. During the War of the Ring, Dúnhere served under Grimbold during the First Battle of the Fords of Isen, where his skill as a horseman proved important to the Rohirrim's weakened defenses. did not accompany Gandalf and Erkenbrand to the Battle of the Hornburg; instead, they sent him to oversee the muster of the Rohirrim in his native Harrowdale. Several days later, he met King Théoden Ednew when he arrived at the Harrowdale. He was also present in the King's pavilion at Dunharrow in a council concerning the Muster of Rohan. At the Battle of Pelennor Fields, Dúnhere was slain along with many heroes. He was remembered in the Song of the Mounds of Mundburg.
